What Does Oxygen Do For Us?

No process or function of our body can take place without O2

Oxygen is essential for mitochondrial respiration and oxidative phosphorylation. In other words, it provides nourishment for maintaining life and growth.

When we breathe air with depleted amounts of oxygen, our body’s processes compensate for the lack of oxygen by using other resources and functions. Compensation comes at a high price as our bodies are forced to perform but with less efficiency, causing the body to wear (age).

Here's An Example

Think about an engine (our bodies) overheating due to the lack of  coolant (Oxygen). The engine makes compensation by utilizing other  resources (fan, oil, and airflow) to stop overheating, but these systems  were not designed to correct the problem. Although they assist in  cooling, they were designed as support functions. If the car continues  to rely on the secondary systems, it will experience severe degradation  and failure (engine wear, seizure, or blown engine).

Are oxygen levels being depleted? How much danger am I in?
